The new terms of the durrrr Challenge

11 October 2025

Daniel Cates, also known as Jungleman, published on 2+2 the terms of the new agreement that he and Tom "durrrr" Dwan made in order to finally finish the Durrrr Challenge at the Full Tilt Poker tables. The challenge began in August 2010, and even before Black Friday the challenge already had several periods with no action.

Durrrr and Jungleman decided on a new agreement to motivate them to finish the challenge, since Durrrr has spent all his time at the Macau casinos. The agreement is "official" since September 1, 2025 and implies that the two play a minimum of 8,000 hands each two month period (September/October being the first period).

In order to play 8,000 hands, the two players must show themselves available to play a minimum of 14 days each 2-month interval.  If a player doesn't meet the minimum requirements for a two-month period he will have to pay a fine of $40,000 (as per the decision of two "referees").

Every next failure following the first $40,000 fine, the player will have to pay an additional $10,000.

The challenge will be followed by two other people (the "referees"), which will have the task of determining what counts as being "available to play", and if any given player has enough arguments to avoid the payment of fines.

Jungleman presents some examples to better illustrate the requirements:

"6 months of hiding will lead to penalties of $40k then $50k then $60k ($150k total)."
"If a player is available to play for 7-13 days in a 2 month period, his penalty for that period will be divided in half."
"If 4,000 - 7,999 hands are played, a half penalty will be the maximum penalty. No penalty will ever be given if 8,000+ hands are played in a period."

In the last session, played on October 1, the two finally passed the 20,000 hands barrier (the challenge implies the dispute of 50,000 hands).
