Phil Ivey finishes 2013 in the red

31 December 2025

For some, he's the best poker player in the world. This year, he has finished his run in online poker in the red. To be more precise, Phil Ivey has lost a total of $2.686.000 at the high stakes tables under the nickname 'polarizing'. Thing is, Ivey never showed a profit this year - he even got to be 3.5 million in the red. This year he has played 80.000 hands.

And what's the reason behind these negative results? To start with, we may talk about the small sample of hands - variance may be influencing Ivey's results. Another reason is the ferocious competition at the nosebleed tables. Also, Ivey has spent a lot of time playing the juicy games in Macau, so he might not be as focused in his online game. Besides, he has also invested a lot of time in his other projects, such as IveyPoker.

Just as a small reminder, Ivey profited around $19.000.000 playing online poker between 2007 and 2011.

Still, the 'Tiger Woods' of poker is not alone in his suffering. Gus Hansen has lost around $8.5 million in 171.525 hands... he's clearly the loser of the year.

Happy New Year to everyone!
