The 10th edition of the PokerStars sponsored European Poker Tour has already kicked off in Barcelona. Find out what has happened so far.
To start with, the first major title of the season was awarded to Vitaly Lunkin, who won the Super High Roller, beating a field of over 51 entries. For his efforts, Lunky earned €771.300.
Meanwhile, the Main Event is still underway - tomorrow will be Day 4.
Registering a total of 1234 participants, the prize pool has €5.984.900 to distribute; the winner will take home more than a million - €1.067.000.
Gerard Piqué, a famous Barcelona football player, made an appearance in the event but, despite a promising start, didn't manage to go further than the 10th level of blinds.
Also out of the race for the Main Event title are some Team PokerStars pro, such as Jason Mercier, Liv Boeree, Vanessa Selbst and Luca Pagano.
While the battle for the Main Event title rages on, Edgar Stuchly, the EPT's president, has introduced the EPT Player of the Year award. This season, the winner will be awarded a €50.000 prize.
The prize will be awarded as a buy-in for Rational Group (PokerStars and Full Tilt) events all around the world - the winner is free to pick which events he'll play.
According to Stuchly, "it's appropriate that the biggest, and richest poker circuit in the world - the European Poker Tour - awards the most prestigious trophy to the best player of the season. The EPT has some of the best poker tournaments in the world, with the best players, and this trophy is a matching award."
