The final table of the first £50,000 Super High Roller of the PokerStars sponsored European Poker Tour London ended as it began, with Martin Finger leading the way. The young German was the big winner in the first edition of this tournament in London, and received a first prize of £821,000 ($1,319,593) .
There were a total of 41 players participating in the tournament, and they did 16 re-entries, accounting for a total of 57 entries. The prize pool came to £2,736,855 with 8 paid places.
The bubble had already burst on Day 2, with the elimination of Mike "Timex" McDonald in 9th place; the 8 finalists who would have to play on Day 3 had already achieved a paid position:
Martin Finger - 4,740,000
Johannes Strassmann - 2,215,000
Bill Perkins - 2,005,000
David Benefield - 1,315,000
Christoph Vogelsang - 1,215,000
Timothy Adams - 1,135,000
Tobias Reinkemeier - 845,000
Patrik Antonius - 745,000
Despite being one of the more experienced players (and with better results among the 8 finalists), Patrik Antonius couldn't resist with his weak stack and was the first player to be eliminated in final table. Antonius began Day 3 badly, and right in the second hand of the day he was reduced to 200,000 chips. Just two hands later he pushed the remaining of his chips with As-5s, receiving a call from Timothy Adams, who also had Ad-5c . Unfortunately for Antonius, the board completed a diamond flush for Adams .
Next one out was David Benefield, who despite going all-in with Jc-Jh, couldn't hold up against Tobias Reinkemeier's Ah-Kc. The first card of the board was a Ad and, easy as that, Reinkemeier won the pot. The German that had started the day with the second shortest stack had already amassed more than 2.5 million chips in the first few minutes.
Patrick Antonius's executioner, Timothy Adams, didn't manage to go further than 6th place. In his final hand he went all-in with 7s-7c against Bill Perkins's 6s-6d - Perkins completed a set with a 6h in the river.
Just five minutes after Adam had left the table, Martin Finger awoke from his comfortable position as chip leader and eliminated two players in the same hand :
Johannes Strassmann moved all-in from the button with 650,000 chips , and Finger (SB) called. Perkins (BB) also decided to move all-in and, once again, Finger called.
Strassmann: Jh-9c
Finger: Qc-Qd
Perkins: Ac-Jd
The board came Ad-Qh-6c-7d-6s and that was it for Strassman and Perkins.
After this double elimination, Finger had 8,005,000 chips on his stack, against Reinkemeier's 3,450,000 chips and Christoph Vogelsang's 2,770,000 chips.
Once again, 3 german players were disputing a big title - last week, the top 3 of the Main Event WCOOP 2013 was dominated by germans.
Vogelsang was eliminated in 3rd place , victim of the chipleader, Finger. Vogelsang was all-in from the small blind with Qh-6h and Finger called with Ad-Kc from the BB. A non-eventful board made Finger win the pot with A high.
Despite the difference in stacks, Reinkemeier fought back for about two hours - still, Finger's stack was never at risk. Check out how it all went down in the final hand of the tournament:
Finger raised 240,000 from the button and Reinkemeir (BB) reraised to 600,000. Finger raised once again to 1,050,000 and Reinkemeier moved all-in . Finger called.
Reinkemeier: 8c-8d
Finger : Jc-Js
The board came 10h-6s-5c-3h-10s and Martin Finger was the champion of the Super High Roller.
Finger, winner of the EPT Prague 2011, received more than $1 million for his victory:
Martin Finger - £ 821,000
Tobias Reinkemeier - £ 593.900
Christoph Vogelsang - £ 383.200
Bill Perkins - £ 290.100
Johannes Strassmann - £ 224.400
Timothy Adams - £ 175.200
David Benefield - £ 139.600
Patrik Antonius - £ 109.455
