Fixed Limit - Back to the future

Recently I have  read a lot about this variant of the game and fell in  love with its  math  component and the important factor of "consistency" to be a  winner in Fixed Limit.
In the U.S. Fixed Limit Holdem was for a long time so there are a lot of players who are familiar with the game, however in the European poker rooms this does not apply and is very profitable to take advantage of it because in No Limit Hold ' em the Regulars abound and it is increasingly difficult to win consistently because of the general level of play  and the ease with which players can find resources to improve your game.
It is for this reason that I started to play more  Fixed-Limit. To have a minimum of motivation I started to play 1/2 and 2/4 while maintaining the rule of a minimum bankroll of 500 big bets. Right now I'm comfortable in 5-10 and I'm giving some shots at 10-20. However in  these limits due to their greater variance i advise using  a bb 1000 bankroll.
To some regular NL Hold'em players when they sit down at a  Fixed Limit table it can be sometimes a bit confusing. When it comes to players who had good results playing the  game in loose low-limit NL games we are faced with a situation of great risk of failure in a Fixed Limit table.
In Fixed Limit there is sometimes a sense that what we can lose is limited and this causes some players to play  super loose and end up losing full buy-ins when their opponents do not fold. These players do not stop to think that the amount you can earn in each hand is also limited and that this strategy is a losing one  in the long term.
The secret to being a winning player in Fixed Limit is making the right decision in a consistent manner over the long term, the best way to start doing this is to reduce our range pre-flop so that we are favorites  most of the time when we see a flop against one or more players. We must be selective, playing never more than 30% of the hands. Many players have had great runs with much  higher VPIP values  than this, however in  the long term this is not sustainable especially if we play several tables simultaneously.
Ax or Kx off-suit, are some of the hands that usually indicate problems, with these hands many times we turn an A or K on the flop and yet we are often dominated because the other player will be in a  typical  situation of Middle Pair with Flush Draw and will chase the  flush to the River or has  Ax or Kx with better kicker. It is best to get used to folding hands like A-8, A-9 or K-10 in most cases. The exception may be when we  have position and several players limp in front of us, so we have good pot odds to hit a monster on the flop, however if we have two pair or trips on a rainbow board and no str8 draw it´s  better to drop the hand. In the long term this is clearly a winning strategy.
As in the previous example we should not play low suited connectors like 6-5 or 3-2.Often one is tempted to play these in the same way we play suited higher  connectors, but n is much more likely that other players are ahead of us to get our draw, even if we succeed to hit it too.
For example, we have 5-4 of spades and hit a flush on the flop with 4 players in the hand and no raise in front of us. It is likely that our hand is in front at the moment but it is quite likely that  any player with A, K or even Q and J of spades will call if we bet in  this spot.
The same applies if we flop a straight in  a similar pot and with the same cards, the possibility that someone gets a higher straight on the turn are reasonable since there was no raise pre-flop. These are  just a few examples of tricky spots with low suited connectors, but there are a lot more so I do not recommended to play these hands often.
Finally another common myth that  is that hands like QJ or QT JT off suit are + EV in enough situations. This is a mistake that could cost you. Obviously when we flop an open ended straight or have a rainbow board yes, but in most cases we will be dominated in outs even with top pair outs to the villain who had a stronger hand pre-flop. Often top pair is not enough  and the danger of our opponents hitting  a flush, trips or a higher pair  if they adopt a solid strategy  to play premiums only.
It is important to clarify that these tips serve primarily those who want to make the transition from No-Limit Hold´em to Fixed Limit starting at the lowest limits. Usually games from 3/6 5/10 are much more complex and we need to mixing up our game play, but I will leave that for another article ...

May the force be with you!
