Spanish players were caught by surprise by the most recent decision of the PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español) parliamentary group. The PSOE members have presented a proposal that aims to cancel the compensatory effect of losses in online gambling.
This was one of the greatest battles Spanish players have fought, when the new regulated online gambling market came into force in Spain: legislation was passed stating that not only gains but also losses could be declared for tax purposes. This situation may cease to exist if the PSOE manages to convince the other parties.
Tax law 16/2012 was published on the 27th of December, 2012, and it gave a positive answer to the political efforts made by the players. The law had a retroactive effect until the 1st of January of that year.
It was a few days ago, on the 20th of November, that the PSOE parliamentary group presented a proposal for the cancellation of the compensatory effect of losses.
This proposal has already been published by the Committee on Finance and Public Administration, chaired by Gabriel Elorriaga; the period for the submission of addenda is now open, a period which will be followed by the discussion on this proposal.
