On the eve of the start of the final table of the Main Event of the World Series of Poker, the Poker Hall of Fame 2013 ceremony was held, this time celebrating the careers of Tom McEvoy and Scotty Nguyen.
McEvoy and Nguyen were chosen from a list that included Chris Bjorin, Humberto Brenes, David Chiu, Thor Hansen, Jennifer Harman, Mike Matusow, Carlos Mortensen and Huck Seed.
This year's ceremony was more discreet and was held at the Wine Cellar of the Rio Hotel & Casino (in Las Vegas). Attendees included several poker stars like Phil Hellmuth, TJ Cloutier, Mike Sexton, Eric Drache, Barbara Enright, Matt Savage and Wendeen Eolis (who was the first woman in history to achieve a paid position in World Series of Poker events).
In a ceremony conducted by the Executive Director of the WSOP, Ty Stewart, Wendeen Eolis was the first speaker, invited by McEvoy. Then followed McEvoy's daughter, who recalled when the family (originally from Michigan) moved to Las Vegas after Tom McEvoy won a tournament in the late '70s .
The honor of officially presenting Tom McEvoy went to TJ Cloutier, who said he saw in McEvoy his "best friend". On his way to the stage, McEvoy received a standing ovation .
Scotty Nguyen had as guest speakers Nolan Dalla (WSOP media director), Rick O'Connell (personal friend) and Phil Hellmuth (who had the official honor of calling the "Prince of Poker" to the stage).
Now, with McEvoy and Nguyen as members, the Poker Hall of Fame has 46 names, of which only 23 are still alive.
