Hyroyuki Hosoda, Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party, has wrote a bill that has as purpose authorizing the construction of casinos in Japan. The bill has now been submitted to the japanese parliament for further discussion.
According to the Bloomberg newspaper, Hosoda has managed to acquire the support of their new coalition partner, the New Komeito, and of the Japan Restoration Party.
These japanese politicians intend to see this bill approved in the next legislative session, which will start in January 2014.
Kazuaki Sasaki, professor at the Nihon University College of Economics, believes that casinos will now become a reality in the Land of the Rising Sun.
“The legalization has been discussed for more than a decade. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics became the change of tide. People started to consider it more seriously as they need infrastructure.”
Japan is the third largest economy in the world, and will the stage for the 2020 Olympics; a local analyst estimates that a gambling japanese market could generate annual revenues of $13 to $15 thousand millions.
